Was Linnaeus a racist?

Carolus (Carl) Linnaeus was a Swedish Naturalist, who systemized binomial nomenclature ( two-named naming system). In his book named ''Systema Naturae'', Carl Linnaeus classified humans (homo sapiens) in to four varieties:
American (Americanus): copper-coloured, choleric (quick-tempered), regulated by custom 
Asiatic (Asiaticus): sooty, melancholic, governed by opinions
African (Africanus): black, phlegmatic (unemotional), governed by caprice
European (Europeanus): fair, sanguine (optimistic), governed by laws

In my opinion, Linnaeus has generalized different races under three main topics; appearance, behaviour/attitudes, and by what they are governed/regulated. First of all appearance (since there are many different races and combinations of different races), the characteristics or character traits of a person varies from one person to another, it's not related with the race a person belongs to. It's related with their psychology, their current conditions, and how they get affected or changed by their surroundings (the environment they live in). Also people rule their lives by many different things so it cannot be said that a race governs their life by only; caprice, laws, or opinions etc. It might be more easier to classify other living things and organisms, however humans are one of the most complicated developed organism in the world since they  can talk, they have complexed emotions, and use their brain more when compared to other living organisms. I believe because of these reasons it is not possible to classify humans.
